Going out for tapas is such a popular thing to do nowadays that restaurants serving these exquisite trademark Spanish dishes seem to be popping up on every corner. That said, it is with the utmost, heartfelt gratitude that I give thanks to Casa Tapas, a restaurant absolutely dedicated to the little mouthfuls of goodness.

If you check their website, you will learn that it is believed that tapas as we know them are derived from the placing of a slice of Serrano ham on a glass of sherry to keep the flies out. And from these humble beginnings, we have a massive choice of dishes, and Casa Tapas serves 43 of the best of them. Parties of three or more can choose from the two tapas set menu options. The Banquet menu includes an assortment of garlic breads and salads, a variety of lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes and, if requested, paella to finish; and the feast set menu comes with all of the above plus a variety of fabulous seafood dishes.

For me, the ultimate à la carte version of the perfect Casa Tapas evening includes starting out with aceitunas alinadas (mixed olives) and spicy chorizo sausage followed by orders of Spanish omelette and ensalata mixta. The mix-and-match options are endless and, much like eating at a sushi restaurant, the pace at Casa Tapas is casual, allowing you to simply order one or two dishes at a time at your leisure. Perhaps sample their famous sangria or maybe a hearty rioja, and eat and drink the Iberian way. Casa Tapas also serves San Miguel and Cruzcampo beer, as well as the excellent cava sparkling wine.

A highlight of the Casa Tapas world are the salsa classes with Cesar, held one a week on Mondays – a great way to keep in shape and learn the steps of this exotic dance. Everyone is welcome.
