Situated in the beautiful Kent village of Hollingbourne, close to the M20 and Leeds Castle, this attractive 16th-Century pub offers a warm welcome and great food and drink. The most traditional part of the pub can be found tucked away at the top of some steps towards the back of the building. Bar stools surround an island bar, where you’ll find hand-pulled ales such as London Pride, Harveys Best and Shepherd Neame Master Brew, as well as several wines by the glass.
Around this central core, under the low black beams, several smallish, mainly carpeted, areas link together – sometimes partly separated by glazed or stained-glass panels. The solid pub tables have padded country or library chairs for your comfort, while soft lighting, black timbers in ochre walls, shelves of books and the log fire in the huge inglenook fireplace combine to create a pleasantly old-world feel. Lunchtime and à la carte menus cater for every taste and a separate children’s menu ensures that everyone is kept happy – on top of all that, a weekly specials selection is also always available. Piped music, and the absence of gaming machines, keep the ambience relaxed at The Windmill, and a neatly kept sunny garden has picnic sets under cocktail parasols and a children’s play area for sunny days. Get booking your Christmas or New Year party, as menus are now available, or pop along for dinner soon – any excuse will do.
