Situated on Earl’s Court Road, this newly opened Lebanese restaurant offers quality, style and service to satisfy the whole family. The first thing that strikes you on entering is the sleek, crisp monochromatic style of the decor – unassuming yet with a powerful impact. The theme and essence of Maroush Bakehouse is also reflected in the artisan menu, which features quality food that both looks and tastes fresh.
All the baked goods are made fresh daily in the Maroush kitchens, and every morning diners are treated to a glimpse of the action. Covering the back wall of the restaurant is a large window, displaying a theatre of dedicated bakers who create the speciality Lebanese bread, khobez. It’s a great visual treat, especially if you are making use of the communal table to enjoy a big family breakfast.
My dinner guest and I visited the Bakehouse for an evening meal at the restaurant. Amid a fantastic atmosphere, we awaited our starters with anticipation – and were not disappointed. A traditional moussaka – fried aubergines baked with tomato, onion, chickpeas, sweet peppers and pomegranate seeds – awakened the tastebuds. Having struggled to make a decision, I eventually opted for a kibbeh shameyieh selection – a plate piled high with deep-fried lamb meatballs with cracked wheat and onions. Not only were both dishes beautifully presented but each had been expertly prepared, combining quality produce and spices – the chefs here clearly know their stuff.
Our main meals, however, were the real treat. Charcoal-grilled lamb and chicken served with onions and parsley had caught our attention on a nearby table and we had ordered it without delay. The freshness of the meat was evident and the accompanying garlic sauce was like no other – whisked into a froth-like texture, it was nothing short of sensational. Finishing with a selection of pastries from the gorgeous range of baked delights and sipping refreshing mint tea, our meal was complete.
If you’re after style, artistry, quality food, the freshest of meats and exciting spices, then look no further than the Maroush Bakehouse. I give it a wholehearted, five-star recommendation.
