Nestled in the heart of Woodhall Spa’s conservation area is a little gem of a hotel that just happens to serve some pretty good food as well. Popular with locals and visitors alike, the hotel’s two restaurants are often booked well in advance.

The Garden Bar has its own terrace for lazy days spent enjoying the surroundings. However, step inside and you will be reminded of the days when the hotel was one of the drinking haunts of the famous 617 Dambusters. If you are in the mood for a light snack in a relaxing atmosphere then this is definitely the place for you to settle in for the day.

However, if it is something rather more refined you crave, try The Lodge restaurant, where you are sure to find an array of mouth-watering dishes. The provenance of the produce is very important to the chef here and therefore all of the meat is locally sourced, the bread is from the village bakery and the fresh fish from Grimsby. As well as the set menu, the chef also creates inviting specials every day so there is always a surprise no matter how many times you visit.

Grilled field mushrooms, rarebit and rocket salad and smoked chicken and mango salad can be enjoyed for starters, before you move on to the main event. Now, bear in mind that they believe wholeheartedly in offering a variety here and then consider which one to choose from the roast plum tomato and mozzarella tartlette, pan-fried pork steak and sautéed savoy cabbage with a grain mustard sauce or baked hare and Provençal sauce. Desserts include glazed lemon tart and strawberry and amaretto cheesecake, but maybe they will have to wait until next time?
