The Red House is definitely no ordinary pub. In fact it’s not just a pub at all. Instead this beautifully restored old coach house set within the picturesque village of Nether Broughton is a pub, restaurant and hotel, all rolled into one, ensuring that whatever its customers require is instantly catered for.

Let’s take the award-winning restaurant to start. This contemporary culinary venue puts local produce right at its core with Stilton from Long Clawson dairy, Belvoir estate lamb, bison from the farm next door and Alton Manor beef. Taking advantage of the abundance of fresh ingredients available to the local area is important to everyone at The Red House and it certainly shows through the regularly changing menu.

Why not try tian of salmon rillette, smoked salmon and caviar with soused cucumber or Roquefort, chicory, pear and walnut salad to start, before moving on to main courses like roast breast of guinea fowl with creamed cabbage, smoked bacon and fondant potato, slow roasted Chinese style pork belly with oriental slaw and peanut sauce or braised shank of English lamb with aromatic cous cous and apricots? Desserts include the very tempting rhubarb, strawberry and pine nut tart with elderflower cream and raspberry, white chocolate and pecan sundae – simply divine.

Couple this stunning menu with a relaxing bar, beautiful courtyard, boutique hotel with just eight individually designed suites and a marquee, set in beautiful gardens, which is available for weddings and private hire and you have the perfect recipe for the perfect venue. Add to that special events like the monthly live jazz suppers and old favourites such as Sunday lunch and you begin to understand why The Red House is popular far and wide. It’s now on my favourites list too.

Experience a similar à la carte menu at The Mulberry Tree in Birstall, or a lighter, more brasserie-style menu after a walk in the park at Newton Linford’s The Bradgate.
