Driving towards the majestic Spa Restaurant at Shearsby Bath, we took in stunning views across the Leicestershire countryside and experienced the unmistakable feeling that we were approaching a mysterious, magical place. Previously a farmhouse, the present owners have lovingly refurbished the original building to create a restaurant, The Orangery and a live entertainment venue. From the Fountain Marquee, set in the grounds, music and laughter float in the evening air.

Traditional features in the lounge bar complement the romantic Pre-Raphaelite art in the elegant restaurant, with The Orangery offering contemporary decor and spectacular views across the landscaped gardens. We found the service efficient yet unhurried, and could choose from the creative Fernie Lounge or Spa Restaurant menus – both full of homemade dishes, reasonably priced and generous in portion. Once seated in the Spa Restaurant, our warm bread rolls came with three freshly made butters. Prawn and crayfish cocktail was served with tomato jelly, salsa verde and curried popcorn – a tangy explosion of flavour. Choose from inviting main courses like local suckling pig or baked goat’s cheese cheesecake. With its idyllic setting, choice of three sophisticated venues, plus live events and weekday specials for senior citizens, Shearsby Bath suits all tastes and pockets, winding up as magically as it first appears.
