For contemporary Indian dining in the heart of bustling Leeds, look no further than Chini Indian Restaurant. Established in 1970 and family run ever since, Chini presents a medley of traditional curry favourites, effortlessly combining them with the finest in modern Indian cuisine.

Here you can expect tandoori, Bengali, Goan, Kashmiri and Punjabi dishes - a wide variety of classic cuisine from the Indian sub-continent. Only the finest ingredients and exquisite ground spices, blended with skill and artistry, are employed by the expert chefs here. The results of such careful preparation speak for themselves in every delicious mouthful.

If you are unfamiliar with any of the dishes that you spy on the menu, just ask a member of the helpful and friendly staff, who will be only too happy to guide you through the menu, explaining which are spicy and mild, fruity or dry, and ultimately finding something that will suit your own particular tastes. The menu is extensive, but perhaps start with appetisers of paneer pakora, featuring cubes of handmade cottage cheese, battered and deep fried, or perhaps the seafood lover in you might fancy prawn chotpoti. Portions and prices are equally generous, with starters ranging from a mere £2.50 and mains from £5.10. Main courses comprise a range of chef's recommendations, house specialities and traditional dishes. Feeling adventurous' Then I suggest making a beeline for the house specialities and relishing the wonderfully delicate flavours of the mint karahi. Choose from specially prepared chicken, lamb or king prawns, cooked in the tandoor with cubed onion, green pepper, almonds and a touch of fresh garden mint - mouth watering yet' Served sizzling in a karahi (wok) this dish is a real feast for the senses. Other options include chef's recommended chicken tikka chom chom 'barbecued chicken or lamb cooked with potato and chickpeas in a medium strength sauce, garnished with coriander - and there are of course all the usual sundries to complement. So, next time you fancy a taste of the exotic, head to Merrion Street and let Chini do all of the hard work.
