In a pretty listed building located just a five-minute walk away from the River Thames sits a charming tearoom that serves hearty breakfasts, wholesome lunches and a whole host of indulgent snacks. Cosy, quaint and staffed by a cheery and obliging team, The Black Cat is just the place for a catch-up with friends or a family lunch. We ordered a traditional ploughman’s lunch, featuring chunks of English Cheddar, crusty bread, crisp mixed salad, red cabbage, sliced beetroot, baby onions and chutney – a vibrant plate of food that tasted as good as it looked. The freshly ground coffee, served in a cafetiere, was rich and revitalising. My partner plumped for a slice of scrumptious homemade lemon drizzle cake and a pot of Earl Grey tea. The Black Cat offers a takeaway option for those on the go, although making time to enjoy a relaxed lunch at this laid-back café is recommended – perhaps in the courtyard if the sun is shining.
