Once upon a time, long before The Vanilla Pod began service, this address belonged to celebrated poet and playwright, T.S. Eliot, who composed some of his most well-known works here. So, where once you’d find a literary mastermind sitting by the fire in the evening, pen in hand, you’ll now encounter a dining room of excited guests and a kitchen busied by a team of talented chefs.

Michael Macdonald opened The Vanilla Pod ten years ago with a specific vision in mind – of a place where people could feel truly at ease while receiving exquisite food and outstanding service. This vision has more than been realised. The rural location of Marlow is perfect for Michael, who believes in the importance of sourcing the restaurant’s produce locally. Here, he is able to build relationships with suppliers and see exactly where much of his food has come from.

Remarkable yet unpretentious, the regularly changing dishes on the menu combine great flavours, inspired originality and an abundance of culinary flair. The loin of venison with creamed bacon, cabbage and chocolate oil, and braised beef cheeks with choucroute and prunes, for example, exemplify the superior standard of food you can expect here.

The Vanilla Pod doesn’t just offer fine cuisine, but an all-round memorable experience.
