The good news is that now you don’t actually have to take that journey to recreate this kind of dining experience. You can inject a little ‘ooh la la’ into your everyday life by visiting Café Rouge. Sit back and relax into breakfast, lunch or an evening meal and experience that ‘je ne sais quoi’ of French know-how that makes Café Rouge such a popular choice. Breakfast is a delight with the obligatory croissants and pains aux raisins on the menu, however there are also some surprises with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon on toasted brioche and savoury pancakes filled with flat mushrooms also making an appearance. Of course, for lunch and dinner the old French classics are ever-present and the starters immediately transport you into a little Gallic bistro – with onion soup, deep-fried Camembert, mussels and Brittany pancakes filled with smoked haddock, all on offer. You can then move on to smoked Toulouse sausages and mash, chicken breast stuffed with Brie and wrapped in jambon cru or beef bourguignon before wrapping your meal up with one of the delightful desserts on offer. These include tasty morsels such as tarte tatin, chocolate fondant, vanilla cheesecake and a platter of delicious French cheeses that will satisfy the pickiest of cheese connoisseurs. If you fancy something lighter there is a myriad of salads to choose from, including goat’s cheese, spicy Merguez sausage and red onion and classic Caesar, as well as sandwiches such as the famous Croque Monsieur and chargrilled steak and chicken baguettes. One of the tastiest dishes from the snack selection is the traditional platter of chicken liver parfait, dry cured meats and Camembert d’Isigny served with olives, hummus and French bread – a Mediterranean treat to be savoured. Café Rouge offers a good value prix fixé menu, which is £7.95 for two courses, or if you can manage it, £9.95 for three. The children’s menu also gives the little ones plenty to choose from with chicken and fish goujons, pasta and sausages all appearing. The French have been shipping wines to the UK since the thirteenth century and Café Rouge certainly take this rich history seriously. They have a staggering range of quality wines on offer giving diners a genuine taste of France. All wines are available by the glass or bottle, so if you fancy a little tipple or an afternoon of indulgence, the choice is yours. Bon appetit. < return to search results |
