For a taste of California in the heart of Guildford, head straight to Chapel Street. Zinfandel's Napa Valley cuisine offers a wide and interesting range of dishes, designed to appeal to all palates. Delicious brasserie-style favourites such as crispy confit of duck with a potato dauphine and Seville orange sauce, fantastic and innovative brick-fired pizzas, succulent rotisserie chicken and flavoursome chargrills are all on offer, along with exotic seafood dishes and a good vegetarian selection. Their terrific 'gourmet' Angus beef burgers and the ever-popular chicken burgers must be tasted to be believed.

The Chapel Street restaurant opened back in 2001 and has been the hub of the town's restaurant scene ever since, satisfying visitors and locals alike. Recently refurbished with sophisticated Napa-Valleyinspired surroundings, Zinfandel reflects the glorious US region that is fast becoming one of America's number one gourmet destinations. Value for money coupled with impeccable quality is a priority here, with a 'light lunch' at just £7.50 proving a real hit with shoppers, tourists and businessmen. My companion opted for the crayfish and salmon fishcakes. Served with lemongrass and a zingy Key lime mayo, the presentation of these delicious treats was stunning and the portions generous. This is one of Zinfandel's most popular dishes, the charming waitress informed us, and I can see why - it fully lived up to their mantra of providing value and quality. My choice was an Angus beef burger with a punchy chipotle chilli relish. The meat was succulent and deliciously chargrilled, served in a fresh homemade bun. A carefully chosen wine list, designed to complement each and every dish on the menu, ensures you will enjoy your Zinfandel experience to the fullest.

The restaurant was buzzing with families, groups of friends and couples when we visited, but the friendly staff kept things flowing and the atmosphere was upbeat. 'It's such a buzz working here when you know that the kitchen produces consistently great food. It just keeps every guest happy', commented our waitress as we paid. 'See you again soon' - and that she definitely will. Mode
