Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Guildford city centre, The King's Head is a welcome retreat for those searching for that illusive entity - the perfect pub and restaurant.
The restaurant couples the warmth and charm of a local hostelry with a well-crafted menu of honest hearty food, as well as light lunch dishes and irresistible desserts.
A highlight of the starter menu is the mozzarella, tomato and baby spinach salad dressed with balsamic vinegar and cracked black pepper. At £4.95 it represents great value and the manner in which it is served is indicative of chef Annette Goldsmith's talent in the kitchen.
Favourites among locals and visitors alike include the Fuller's ESB steak and mushroom pie with mash and vegetables (£7.25). The prime seared sirloin Argentinian steak (£9.95) we enjoyed was cooked exactly to our requirements and represents a staple of the evolving menu.
Be sure to arrive early if you're keen to sample the specials as they will invariably get snapped up very quickly - such is the reputation of the restaurant among discerning diners.
In addition to the superb restaurant, The King's Head also features a saloon bar and a patio with heaters, so you can enjoy alfresco dining even in the cooler autumn months.
