Church Street, Goldsborough, HG5 8NR

Tucked away in the quiet village of Goldsborough you’ll find historic Goldsborough Hall, a splendid venue with extensive grounds, which was once home to Princess Mary, the Queen’s aunt. Here, tranquil surroundings envelop you in a genteel ambience that transports you away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Recently awarded two AA rosettes, Goldsborough Hall is an award-winning restaurant that provides the highest standards of modern British cuisine and service. Spectacular chandeliers, traditional furnishings and classic artwork create a sumptuous setting that’s immediately warm and welcoming. The library and drawing room provide relaxing seating areas, while the beautiful orangery overlooking the gardens is ideal for receptions as well as lunchtime dining. Service is impeccable, delivered by friendly, knowledgeable staff who introduce every dish and are on-hand to fulfil additional requests.

Head chef Adam Thur was born and raised in Hungary but delivers seasonal modern British menus of exquisitely presented dishes that consistently delight diners. Making the most of the natural larder provided by the traditional kitchen garden, Adam creates a fine range of seasonal dishes that seamlessly combines classical flavours with modern techniques, as well as occasionally adding a twist to reflect his cultural roots.

As you might expect, choosing from the innovative à la carte menu is a tricky task with so many tempting dishes on offer. You might start with beetrootand gin-cured salmon served with rye bread, grapefruit and juniper, or perhaps pigeon breast wrapped in pancetta and baby spinach. For a delightful main, plump for the trio of lamb featuring ewe’s cheese, pickled red onion and pommes Anna, or pan-roasted halibut served with Szechuan peppered squid, seashore vegetables and saffron-braised potatoes. To finish, the crème brûlée served with poached plums is sure to delight.

Goldsborough Hall is the ideal venue for celebrations, including weddings. Open to non-residents for lunch, afternoon tea and evening dining, the elegant yet homely surroundings, attention to detail and high standard of personal service make any visit a special occasion.
