If authentic Greek cuisine is what you are looking for, then look no further than Dino’s Village Taverna in Gloucester, where you will be met with the warmest of hospitality. Setting foot inside Dino’s, tucked away down a small side street in the heart of Gloucester, you will find one of life’s treasured surprises. Greek music sets the scene, while the decor – resplendent with vibrant tablecloths and candlelit tables – immediately transports you to a remote Greek island and memories of holidays long past.

At the very core of the business is Dino himself. Dino spent 25 successful years at the helm of his Cheltenham restaurant Dionysis, aptly named after the Greek god of revelry; six years ago he opened Dino’s Taverna in Gloucester, which has been flourishing ever since. A family business in every sense, even Dino’s granddaughter pitches in waiting on tables, wearing authentic Greek costume.

The menu offers a delectable choice of Greek culinary delights and provides the diner with a marvellous opportunity to sample a variety of traditional Greek food. All the fresh produce used in the menu is locally sourced; Dino makes his own mince using only the finest local cuts, and regular trips to London allow him to source Greek halloumi and feta of the finest quality.

The menu choice is extensive, ranging from the more wellknown dolmathes (stuffed vine leaves), moussaka and hummus to the more exotic tava – a fine Greek hotpot of the finest lean lamb marinated in aromatic spices. For those unfamiliar with Greek cuisine, or simply for the indecisive, meze provides a selection of 20 hot and cold dishes, served in two courses and guaranteed to satisfy the most discerning of diners. The meatballs, made from tasty pork and lamb, quite literally melt in the mouth.

All of the dishes are prepared to the highest standards, and there’s a wide choice of meat, fish and vegetarian options, which you can wash down with a bottle of one of the speciality Greek wines. Booking is essential as Dino’s is undoubtedly a popular venue, and welcomes families.
