Millets Farm Centre is a great place for a day out, with a farm zoo, children’s play area, falconry centre and garden centre to explore, but is also a dining destination in its own right thanks to the popular Farmhouse Restaurant. This cosy, inviting restaurant was just the ticket on the chilly lunchtime we visited; we also spotted a patio with ample seating, and resolved to return in the summer for an alfresco lunch.
The restaurant is run by the enterprising Michael Ashton, whose passion and enthusiasm for his business shine through in every aspect: the dedication of his staff; the sheer range of tempting homemade fare on offer; and the many regulars who come back time and again. All ingredients are sourced locally, with many grown on site. Visit in the morning for a traditional farmhouse breakfast, or enjoy a baguette, sandwich, bowl of soup or hearty main for lunch. With a range of homemade biscuits, cakes and scones available, indulging in a sweet treat and a cup of tea or coffee is a must too.
My steak pie was a marvel, featuring beautifully tender steak pieces in rich gravy, encased in golden, crisp pastry. My companion tucked into succulent turkey served with all the trimmings and the best mashed potato that either of us had tasted in a long time. Our meal here was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, and we will certainly be back.
