Sardo restaurant, tucked behind busy Tottenham Court Road, is a rare find offering superb Sardinian food and wine. Consequently, you’ll find some pleasingly unfamiliar dishes on the menu that you wouldn’t elsewhere.
As soon as we opened the door, our noses were filled with the mouth-watering aromas of island cooking. Once seated, we were served a glass of chilled Prosecco each and a bread basket with olives and oil. My carpaccio di manzo soon arrived, served on a bed of rocket with large pecorino shavings. Beautiful flavours of beef, lemon and fresh herbs shone through. Next, I chose linguine al granchio which I couldn’t have been more pleased with. Made with fresh crabmeat, parsley, chilli and extra virgin olive oil, this dish was so meaty and flavoursome that it’s no wonder it’s one of Sardo’s most popular dishes. I would also recommend the salsiccia sarda, which comprises homemade sausages served with endivia and potatoes.
The restaurant also stocks its very own wine, a Sardinian favourite which is produced especially for the owner. Next door, Sardo Cucina offers great-quality food to take away. Sardo is a truly wonderful Italian; you’re sure to find yourself returning time and time again.
