Light and airy and in a fantastic location just off the M5, the historic Huntsman Inn has been serving the local community for over 300 years. Today it provides modern, superior en-suite rooms, excellent wines, good quality ales - London Pride, local ales and Doombar - and a gorgeous menu of homemade traditional British cuisine with an international edge.
Dinner got off to a great start with Arbroath smoky, which saw flaked smoked mackerel bathed in cheese sauce and topped with a golden bread crust and served with a wedge of rustic bread for mopping up. My partner's poacher's paté was equally sublime, rich with venison, plums and brandy and served with salad and sweet bread. On the daily specials board and from the main menu you'll find classic dishes, inventive meals and a selection of chargrill options to choose from. My spinach and mushroom lasagne was a homemade affair packed with mushrooms and served with crunchy garlic bread. The meat here is locally sourced and much of the fruit and vegetables come direct from the pub's own allotment.
The impression you'll be left with after a visit to The Huntsman Inn is how well it is run, with pride and commitment - they even hold a five-star hygiene award. A perfect stop off on the way to Cheltenham Racecourse, this inn with rooms is a true thoroughbred.
