The carefully designed Plough boasts lots of blonde wood, feature walls, interesting artefacts, leather furnishings and solid rustic tables, with all elements married together using a palette of natural colours. The effect is comfortable and warm, as the traditions of an inn demand, but also fresh and modern, catering for the requirements of the 21st-Century diner - this theme is reflected in the menu.
Sharing plates encourage a sociable start to your meal, or can be a tasty accompaniment to drinks with friends. Baked Taleggio cheese with onion jam and rustic bread is a gooey and moreish plate of temptation, while the Greek mezze plate is perhaps a lighter way to begin. Other appetisers include freshly made soup of the day and scallops of the day. Moving on, and the combinations are endless - opt for pasta or salad, something from the grill, a fired pizza or something hearty from the stove. If a healthy salad is what you are craving, then I would recommend the niçoise or crispy duck salad, however, if the piping hot temptation of the 'stove' dishes proves too much, then you can't go wrong with spit-roasted chicken with thyme, lemon aioli and frites. Fired pizzas, like the Piccante with its pepperoni, chorizo, tomatoes and jalapeno peppers, are crisp and fresh, while meat lovers will undoubtedly look straight to the grill and devour the lamb chops or rib-eye steak, served with frites, a choice of garlic butter or Béarnaise, burnt tomato, onion salsa, and mango and spring onion chilli relish.
