Who says that romance is dead' After visiting @ Angela's delightful restaurant, your faith that romance is alive and kicking, particularly in Exeter, will be restored. Head chef and co-owner Richard Valder has named their inspired restaurant after his partner simply because, and I quote, ' I love my wife, of course'. And with this husband and wife team at the helm, @ Angela's is set to go from strength to strength. Between them they have created a restaurant that is essentially an extension of the dinner parties they love to hold. The stripped wooden floors, pale walls, newly cut flowers and white linen tablecloths provide a clean and fresh atmosphere, something which extends to the menu itself with a whole host of quality, fresh, local produce making its presence felt. In the evening the soothing spotlighting and gentle background music lend the restaurant a special quality perfect for spoiling that someone special or enjoying an evening catching up with friends. To start, why not opt for hand-picked white and brown crab with orange served on a salad with ginger dressing, or perhaps the grilled goat's cheese on toasted brioche with a mixed salad and a walnut and honey dressing is more your thing' Onto the main courses and you are in for quite a treat with a number of tempting options. The likes of roasted duck breast with caramelised orange sauce and baked filo parcel filled with mushroom and walnut duxelle present you with a difficult decision; but be assured that whatever you choose, you won't be disappointed. All main courses are served with fresh vegetables and potatoes. After a finale of spiced apple and sultana pie with ice cream or clotted cream, or both, you'll find yourself fully contented. With coffee and truffles to send you into the night, you'll soon find yourself back to enjoy the hospitality of this couple who, luckily for us, are as passionate about food as they are about each other.
