A selection of tactile materials has been used in the interior design of central Sheffield's Wig & Pen. Sister venue to The Milestone, The Wig & Pen was opened in 2010 to offer South Yorkshire somewhere to kick back, relax, enjoy a pint, try a cocktail and tuck into a great, seasonal meal. The use of various types of wood, brick, stone and leather and an amalgam of furniture from various eras results in a welcoming setting that's smart and comfortable, yet perfectly at home in its Georgian Paradise Square setting.
Spread over two floors, this restaurant and bar boasts several versatile spaces for private functions and parties - there are even several dedicated menus to choose from for those planning a celebration. Should you be dropping by for a Saturday night out, however, you'll find a number of contemporary seasonal dishes to choose from. All ingredients are sourced from suppliers based in the immediate area, so the menu changes as frequently as the weather, keeping things interesting for regulars.
As a starter or bar snack, I can recommend the delicious mackerel paté with pickles, rocket and toast. The Big Wig burger with burger sauce, gherkins, smoky bacon, Applewood cheese, beef tomato, little gem lettuce, a Fancie brioche bun and skinny fries is a main-course must, while the sharing platters most definitely deserve consideration too. Sunday lunch is a hearty affair, and there's an early bird option offered throughout the week, when three courses are just £16.50. With parking and public transport easily accessed, there's no excuse not to try this Sheffield gem
