Occupying a prime location on Cheltenham Parade in the heart of the town (behind the Harrogate Theatre), The Harrogate Brasserie has been a must-visit dining destination for the past 23 years.
The relaxed atmosphere of the 80-cover restaurant is enhanced by live jazz six nights a week, featuring David Bailey and Nicki Allan on weeknights and a guest artist on Fridays and Sundays (see the website for details). Dining here is great value, with two courses available for just £14 between 5.30pm and 7pm, and from £20 between 7pm and 9.30pm.
On our visit, we were introduced by the maitre d' to a variety of daily specials, as well as the à la carte. We began with the very tasty home-cured gravadlax with dill dressing, and ham hock terrine with homemade piccalilli, followed by pan-fried venison with celeriac and red wine jus and fillet of salmon with herb-crushed potatoes and herb butter sauce - all were delightful. We could not resist finishing with vanilla creme brulée and Black Forest chocolate brownie.
Why not make a weekend of it by booking a stay in one of the 16 beautifully individual rooms, priced from £110 for bed and breakfast accommodation for two people. There is a selection of double and twin rooms, plus the recently added apartments with balconies overlooking Harrogate. With great food and accommodation, and prompt, friendly service to boot, The Harrogate Brasserie should be on your radar
