Drawn in by the elegant red brick exterior and refi ned but affordable menu, we chose to dine at Farnham’s Loch Fyne restaurant. Despite visiting on a Wednesday night, the restaurant was busy and had a warm, relaxed atmosphere. On our way to our table in the attractive conservatory we eyed the fishmonger counter laden with fresh and tempting seafood – surely a good sign for the meal to come.
Getting immediately into the spirit of things, we started proceedings with a glass of Prosecco and an oyster straight from the Scottish loch. From the impressive new menu, I opted for sea bass and scallop ceviche with pink grapefruit, pomegranate, pea shoots and cumin popcorn to start and was blown away by the quality and freshness of the dish. This was followed by a sumptuous main course of seafood ramen, served with Scottish mussels, king prawns, squid, udon noodles and a fried egg. My husband devoured his starter of salt and pepper squid and his main course of Loch Fyne salmon teriyaki with Japanese brown rice and broccoli too. For dessert, we chose the glazed lemon tart and orange polenta cake. We’re already planning a return visit, and are particularly keen to come back to dine al fresco on the patio.
