Those familiar with the expression 'Yorkshire portions' will be delighted by the fare on offer at The Black Horse. Kevin Davis and his team have only been running this eatery since February 2011, but have already made their mark on the local culinary scene, attracting diners from Askwith and beyond. Kevin prides himself on knowing where all their produce originates from, including mussels from Kinsale, venison sausages from specialist local suppliers, other meats from the Calder Valley, lamb from Wharfedale and yummy ice cream from the Yorkshire Dales.
With so much delicious, fresh produce on the menu, we couldn't wait to try The Black Horses' fantastic food. My rich duck confit ravioli starter was melt-in-themouth delicious, while my guest considered his garlic mussels to be the best he had ever tasted. My fillet of beef stroganoff main with rice was succulent and full of flavour - and my goodness, what a generous portion. The beautifully presented shared assiette of desserts - which included Eton Mess, Black Forest gateau, ice cream and a cheesecake tumble topped with raspberry sorbet - provided a delightfully indulgent end to a delectable meal. The Black Horse also serves a Sunday carvery which, if their weekday offering is anything to go by, should be fantastic - we'll certainly be back to try it.
