The Lion, a Thwaites Inn of Character, is a 17th-Century coaching inn situated in the picturesque market town of Settle, on England's most scenic railway route. The inn attracts people of all ages with its relaxing atmosphere, free Wi-Fi and approachable staff, and man's best friend is welcome inside too. The selection of ales and high-quality wines available at the bar means The Lion is a great place to unwind with a drink by the fantastic open inglenook fireplace, and the snug and cosy Lion's Den is great if you're looking for a more intimate experience.

The seasonally changing menu has a lovely array of dishes - the winter selection features favourites like smoked salmon with horseradish creme fraiche and a wonderful homemade spiced parsnip and apple soup. Main course options include Welsh sea bass with a rich Hollandaise sauce and Dauphinoise potatoes. There is also a wide assortment of tasty salads, deli boards and burgers. My partner opted for the hearty Settle suet pudding served with three varieties of mustard. An extensive dessert menu proved tempting, with comfort dishes like poached pears and artisan cheeseboards, but in the end we plumped for mini puddings of brownies and bread and butter pudding
