In the thriving business district of Birmingham's city centre is a pioneering restaurant that has helped to reshape the culinary landscape of the city. Offering two exquisitely crafted tasting menus, each with its own expertly paired wine flight, award-winning head chef and owner Glynn Purnell provides a truly indulgent dining experience.
On arrival we were greeted with a glass of Champagne before being shown to our table in the sophisticated restaurant. To start, my companion enjoyed Glynn's signature dish from the 'reminisce' menu - haddock-infused milk served with egg yolk, cornflakes and curry oil. This dish not only celebrates Birmingham's flourishing multicultural food scene, but pays homage to Glynn's favourite childhood dinner: milk-poached haddock with a cornflake crust. My favourite dish from the 12-course 'now' menu was the curry-cured salmon with wasabi crumble and cucumber ketchup, served with a light and grassy Japanese wine, which perfectly complemented the Asian spices.
For dessert we both delighted in the 'mint choccy chip' - a bowl of refreshing mint ice cream served with delicious chocolate mousse and accompanied by a minty liquid nitrogen mist, providing a wonderful aroma to enhance the flavour. With a highly skilled work force dedicated to providing culinary excellence and outstanding service, Purnell's offers a truly gastronomic experience. Foodies, put it on your bucket list. *£32 represents the cost of the set lunch menu; £80 represents the cost of the 12-course tasting menu
