The Milk Churn
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Sitting on the outskirts of the old market town of Melksham, amidst riverside gardens and rolling countryside, is The Milk Churn, an establishment as loyal to its heritage as it is to its food. At this warm and welcoming dining spot, the team made us feel right at home as we settled in to sate a healthy appetite after exploring Melksham.
We decided to start our meal with the soup of the day. Made with a gluten-free stock, it would be a perfect choice for those with dietary requirements as the accompanying crusty roll can be requested as gluten-free too. It certainly warmed and satisfied. At this Hall & Woodhouse establishment, you'll not only find their award-winning ales such as Badger Fursty Ferret and Tanglefoot propping up the bar, but also appearing throughout the menu, adding extra depth to many a hearty dish, particularly in their award-winning steak and Tanglefoot pie. I could taste the quality of the ingredients, and it offered a deep, delicious flavour that you only get with seasonal produce.
Feeling suitably snug and tended to by the charming team, we decided to indulge in dessert and were not disappointed. The pineapple upside down cake with lashings of custard was a firm favourite, as was the comforting apple and blackberry crumble. An al fresco dining area and children's play area are a great way to keep the kids entertained with peace of mind. Upon leaving we noted that the Milk Churn also serves a good home-cooked breakfast – I can think of no better way to start the day. For the perfect meal to go with a perfect day out in the countryside, I'd certainly recommend The Milk Churn.
