6 East Street, Chickerell, Weymouth, DT3 4DS

Serving first as a house, then as the village bakery, and later as a place to store a World War II fire engine, the Turk's Head Inn has certainly had a colourful 200 years in the heart of Chickerell. Even the beguiling name of this pub is interesting; standing less than a mile from the beach, it is only fitting that the Turk's Head is named after a type of knot used by fishermen. Testament to its wealth of fascinating history, the inn also retains a number of its original features, making for an atmosphere fit to match its reputation.
Take the time to savour this historic venue with some delicious food from the traditional, very reasonably priced menu. Perhaps a hearty ploughman's or a warming chilli jacket potato for lunch; in the evening, you may wish to indulge in plaice goujons or a mammoth 16oz mixed grill. Whilst the portions here are generous, you'd be mad not to order a couple of side dishes - they vary from Waldorf salad to cheesy garlic bread, and are priced from just £1.30. Desserts are a must too; the toffee fudge sundae with a dash of Tia Maria is a great adult twist on a children's classic. And speaking of the little ones, they are well catered for at the Turk's Head, with a selection of yummy children's options available. Whether for a light bite, satisfying dinner or homely Sunday lunch, the Turk's Head can be enjoyed by the whole family.
