The Poet Laureate
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

5 Pummery Square, Poundbury, Dorchester, DT1 3GW

This family-run pub and restaurant is set in the impressive Poundbury estate created by HRH Prince Charles in the county town of Dorchester. Customers can relax in comfort with a light lunch or more formal dinner, or just pop in for a drink and sample one of the real ales, Continental lagers or interesting wines; even if you're just visiting for a cup of coffee, you can be assured of a very warm welcome.
The extensive menu offers locally sourced, freshly prepared traditional food, such as the famous steak and ale suet pudding with caramelised onion gravy served with fresh vegetables. Local sausages with creamy mash and red wine gravy and the liver and bacon casserole are always favourites. The specials board reflects the seasons and includes game and fresh fish dishes, and if you have a special dietary need the team will always accommodate your requirements. There is also a two and three-course meal deal available from Monday to Saturday. The Sunday carvery has become renowned for its excellence, offering a choice of three succulent locally sourced meats such
as beef, pork or gammon and turkey plus a nut roast option, accompanied by roast potatoes, honey-glazed parsnips, fresh vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and rich gravy. If you still have room try the homemade rice pudding, treacle sponge, Bramley apple pie or homemade ice cream to finish. It is, however, strongly recommended that you book to avoid disappointment. Children and dogs are welcome at The Poet Laureate - with well behaved parents and owners
