The Black Dog
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

50 Main Street, Broadmayne, DT2 8ES

Set just off the main street of the vibrant village of Broadmayne, the newly refurbished The Black Dog offers great dining as well as excellent overnight accommodation.
On arrival I took a seat in the comfortable pub and browsed the menu with a pint of local ale in hand. As a traditional pub, The Black Dog's food offering focuses on classic pub food done well, with some excellent contemporary dishes adding variety. I started with a smooth Dorset paté with toasted granary bread and a peppery side salad, while my partner plumped for a flaky cod and spicy chorizo fishcake on a bed of sweet chilli noodles. Both starters were superb and a great indication of the quality of our main courses to come. Having spotted a plate of Whitby scampi and chips leaving the kitchen earlier, I couldn't resist ordering it for myself. It was a dish that delivered - the scampi was succulent, coated in crisp, golden batter, and the accompanying chunky chips and sweet garden peas were delicious too. My partner devoured a rare rump steak that was juicy and perfectly pink, served with chips and Dorset-grown watercress. For dessert, we shared the homemade lemon tart on a crisp pastry base and apple crumble with vanilla ice cream.
With a children's menu and a large play area, The Black Dog is an excellent choice for those with little ones in tow
