Prewley Moor Arms
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants

Sourton Down, Okehampton, Devon, EX20 4HT

A roaring fire greeted us when we walked into the Prewley Moor Arms, and the service was equally warm and friendly. The food was hearty too, with portions generous enough to satisfy the walkers and cyclists who come in off the popular Granite Way. The Prewley Moor Arms is a very family-friendly pub, with a fully equipped play area in its large garden, and a spacious, modern interior.
The pub prides itself on sourcing locally, so we chose from a range of West Country beers and sat in a cosy corner while we waited for our food. I started with tasty smoked haddock fishcakes while my partner enjoyed two enormous wedges of deep-fried Brie with cranberry sauce. Our meaty mains were really excellent. A lamb shank, cooked for four hours, was served on a tower of mashed potato and gravy, and flaked off the bone perfectly. The homemade steak and kidney pie was also delicious, with good old English pastry, tender meat and kidney, with a rich sauce. The golden roast potatoes and baby vegetables were also crisp and delicious. Now our stomachs were thoroughly satisfied, but we couldn't ignore the allure of the dessert board, which changes regularly and offers an impressive selection. We shared a creamy caramel and chocolate Bavarois - a fabulous end to a memorable evening.
