The Duke of York

The Duke of York is all about great hospitality and quality food and drink - there are no gimmicks here. This is a truly traditional inn, with cosy corners, open fires and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Although The Duke keeps things refreshingly simple, what it does, it does well - CAMRA and The Good Pub Guide certainly agree. Both locals and visitors to the area are received with the same friendly welcome and have no problem making themselves at home. Dishes are home cooked, ingredients local and portions generous, which is all the more impressive when you consider that The Duke probably has one of the largest menus in the South West. Of all their dishes, though, be sure to try the famous steak and kidney pudding, washed down with one of their well-maintained ales or something from the exceptional wine list. Finally, visitors should be aware of The Duke's links to Michael Morpurgo's War Horse, as it was here that Morpurgo met the veterans who told him tales that directly inspired the work
