The Elephant is a multi-award-winning restaurant overlooking Torbay’s beautiful harbour. It has held a Michelin star for 11 years and is the only starred restaurant in Torbay. Its ethos involves a commitment to using seasonal ingredients, sourcing locally and ensuring that customers enjoy the best standards of cooking in Torbay. All food is prepared from scratch and perfectly executed by a talented team headed up by acclaimed chef-proprietor Simon Hulstone.
The 55-cover ground floor restaurant was refurbished earlier this year to reflect the local surroundings and showcase the provenance of the ingredients, many of which come from the restaurant’s dedicated farm in Brixham. Expect beautifully presented, delicious food served by a professional and knowledgeable team. Starters might include Brixham scallops with artichoke velouté and morcilla, while mains may feature Southdown Farm pork with maple-roasted pumpkin, creamed Savoy, smoked garlic and fried sage. You could conclude with vanilla rice with Agen prunes and Earl Grey syrup or, for a savoury finish, artisan South West cheese and homemade chutney. The restaurant also serves a set lunch at only £14.50 for two courses and £16.95 for three. For the full culinary experience, a tasting menu is available each evening.
While Simon is the brains behind the food, his wife, Katy, manages the front of house with the help of a dedicated team. Striving to maintain the restaurant’s reputation for excellence, Katy ensures every service runs like clockwork, providing a first-class dining experience for all.
