Torbay Court Hotel is located not far from the hustle and bustle of Paignton Pier along a quiet residential cul-de-sac. The original building dates back to the 1800s and our friendly host explained that the hotel is currently being refurbished, with all 58 en-suite rooms now completed. The bright and airy Olive Tree Restaurant is a haven for relaxation and boasts a laid-back atmosphere. Behind the bar you’ll find draught beer and lager along with bottled ale, cider and soft drinks, and a broad selection of wine.
We kicked things off with a wonderfully light homemade chicken liver parfait paired with Melba toast and chutney, along with prawns wrapped in Scottish smoked salmon with citrus mayonnaise and fresh leaves. For mains, it had to be the zesty pan-roasted Devonshire duck breast on a bed of crushed potatoes with clementine sauce, and a juicy sirloin steak accompanied by homemade onion rings, grilled tomato, mushrooms, golden chips, peas and crunchy salad. For dessert, we succumbed to the strawberry, homemade fudge and meringue tower – a real treat. The Olive Tree Restaurant offers something for everyone, including Sunday lunch and afternoon tea. Keep an eye out for regular offers and themed evenings, although whatever the occasion, you’ll be well looked after.
