This year sees Michele and Wendy Ruocco celebrate a quarter of a century in business. Since opening all that time ago, Quo Vadis has continued to deliver superb Italian cuisine and friendly service. Situated in Preston, Paignton, the restaurant seats 25 diners and operates on the policy that once you are seated, the table is yours for the evening. Everything on the menu is cooked by Michele himself, and he's happy to cater for any special dietary needs. The classic cuisine of Quo Vadis, with its definite retro feel, makes the main courses the highlight of the menu - my chicken funghi, a plump breast in a garlic, mushroom, lemon and cream sauce (£13.50), came with crunchy vegetables and sautéed potatoes; as did the steak Diane, a juicy fillet coated with a tangy cognac, onion, mushroom and cream sauce (£19.95). We finished with the house speciality, delicious rum flambé bananas (£6.50) - it's not hard to see why locals love this gem of a restaurant.
