The port of Brixham is as pretty as a picture, with its brightly painted cottages and bobbing fishing boats. Situated on the beach at the end of Brixham Marina is the Breakwater Bistro. Lunch and snacks are served from noon until 6.30pm, with sandwiches, salads, pasta bowls and jacket potatoes all available. However, it is in the evening that the Breakwater really comes alive. To start, perhaps try moules marinières with a chunk of crusty bread or dressed Brixham crab. There is a generous selection of main courses to choose from, including the shellfish feast for two, made with local Exmouth mussels, Devon crab claws, Brixham clams and langoustines, served with lemon and dill butter, new potatoes and corn on the cob. You won't be able to resist dessert: the shortbread love hearts with Devonshire clotted cream and fresh strawberries are divine. If the weather is mild, choose a table on the terrace and enjoy a Devon cream tea, or something from the list of 'cakes and naughties'
