The Rumwell Inn is situated near the beautiful Blackdown Hills and is certainly worth seeking out. Outside, the pretty beer garden offers fantastic views of the local area, while the interior offers a maze of nooks and crannies for discreet dining, with larger areas for groups and parties.
To start I enjoyed the prawn gateau - the mountain of succulent prawns was well worth the £5.25 price tag. The Marie Rose sauce complemented the prawns perfectly, with just a whisper of paprika keeping things fresh. There's a great choice of fresh, locally-produced main dishes, with an ever-changing specials board for those who want something a little different. I tried the rib-eye steak, which was generously garnished with mushrooms, chips and salad. The steak was chargrilled to perfection and topped with Rumwell butter, enhancing the steak's flavour, and the side order of mighty onion rings showcased a light, crispy batter. I didn't have much room for dessert, but the sticky toffee pudding caught my eye and I couldn't resist. The addition of dates gave the pudding a rich and moist texture - a true winner for anyone with a sweet tooth. This inn serves good food for good times.
If you're stuck on the M5 take a detour and visit The Rumwell.
