This inn is truly a delight. A traditional English pub serving really excellent food, it boasts a large beer garden at the rear, and a dining area which is cosy and intimate whilst retaining its old-world atmosphere. Abi, our waitress, was attentive to our every need; and as we perused the menu, what struck me most was the originality and variety of the dishes on offer. For starters, my wife ordered the grilled flat mushroom topped with blue cheese and a Parmesan crust, while I had the salad of grilled goat's cheese with red onion marmalade - both were absolutely delicious. For her main course, my wife chose the pan-fried smoked haddock with bacon, cream and parsley, served with mash and wilted spinach, whilst I had a dish I have never had beyond Mediterranean shores - a Spanish-style fish and chorizo stew, lightly spiced with chilli, garlic, paprika and saffron, served on basmati rice. It was a real treat, and cooked to perfection. There is a varied selection of wines which, like the food, is sensibly priced. For dessert, I had the chocolate and walnut brownie with ice cream and cream, while my wife opted for a simple but delicious ice cream. As well as dinner, the pub offers a varied lunch menu and Thursday night is burger night, with toppings to please one and all. The Globe deserves to go from strength to strength - book early to avoid disappointment.
