As soon as you step inside The Malt House, you’re sure to be impressed by the relaxed and friendly ambience of this delightful family-run hotel and restaurant. The Malt House has been awarded a TripAdvisor Certifi cate of Excellence for three years in succession, and is highly praised for its welcoming atmosphere and high standard of food and accommodation.
The menu is based on traditional pub fare and everything is homemade. In the evening, you may see the likes of steak and ale pie, lasagne verdi, and halibut with lime and butter. All are served with a choice of chips, mash or salad potatoes, and vegetables or salad. We visited for Sunday lunch, when the carvery takes pride of place, and we piled our plates high with golden roast potatoes, a wide variety of vegetables and a selection of beautifully tender locally sourced meat. Although we were already more than satisfied, we couldn’t say no to desserts of lemon meringue pie and strawberry crumble cheesecake.
There is plenty to see and do in the area, with both Berkeley Castle and the Edward Jenner Museum only a mile from the pub, and if you’re tempted to stay longer, The Malt House has nine simply but elegantly furnished en-suite bedrooms. There is also a function room that seats around 60 guests, making this friendly and accommodating hotel an ideal venue for a special celebration.
