St Peters Quay, Totnes, Devon, TQ9 5EW
William White's History, Gazetteer and Directory of Devonshire 1850 refers to the River Dart as being 'navigable to Totnes for vessels of 150 tons burthen, and a steam packet piles daily between Totnes and Dartmouth'. Now the only steam packet you'll see in Totnes is the inn of the same name, situated in picturesque St Peter's Quay.
Head chef Adam Bowhay is an expert at cooking up modern fare, using the finest locally produced ingredients whenever possible. The freshly prepared starters, varied and priced from just £2, include mixed marinated olives, salmon and dill fishcakes with tomato salsa, and prawn and crayfish salad. An extensive main-course menu, priced from £9.95, provides selections such as fish pie, chicken, ham and leek pie or sea bass fillet. Daytime dining is equally fine, with a selection of sandwiches and light bites to choose from.
You have the option of dining in the conservatory restaurant overlooking the River Dart, in the bar area with its open log fire or, weather permitting, you can dine alfresco on the terrace. There are four moorings for visitors' boats, making it easy to sail in for a drink, meal or overnight stay. Rooms are all en-suite, and bookings include a full English breakfast.
