With an idyllic location close to the River Dart, the Sea Trout Inn is a wonderful place to retreat to. We admired the excellent views from our table, while tucking into delicious baked Camembert with warm sourdough – a real treat on a chilly spring evening. The staff were attentive and friendly, full of knowledge and enthusiasm. For mains we plumped for two dishes from the specials board: goat’s cheese and cranberry tortellini in a creamy blue cheese sauce, and rich duck and Toulouse sausage cassoulet, both of which were excellent. We rounded off our meal with scrumptious honeycomb ice cream, and fresh fruit salad with clotted cream.
The building itself is an old 15th-century coaching inn, and offers all the charms you’d hope for in an agreeable country pub, including exposed wooden beams and a cosy wood-burning stove. The relaxed atmosphere and bright, traditional decor create a welcoming ambience perfect for a meal out with friends. There is also a spacious terrace outside, which would be a delightful place to spend a sunny afternoon. Why not pop into the Sea Trout with your pup after a walk along the river, or enjoy a leisurely lunch here after a trip on the nearby steam railway? If you’re staying in the area, take advantage of one of the pleasant en-suite bedrooms on offer here and enjoy a peaceful night’s rest.
