The White Hart Inn can be found on the main street of Modbury. The decor is warm and inviting, with comfortable sofas and a large open fire for those chilly evenings. The lounge and bar area is a perfect meeting place for friends to enjoy a pre-dinner drink. The White Hart offers superb, affordable food in a warm and welcoming setting, and the staff are friendly and well-informed. Manager Howie Bedford is keen to support local food producers and suppliers; along with the head chef, he ensures all food is fresh, seasonal, cooked well and nicely presented. The menu is balanced, so you have the best in flexible dining, and changes regularly to keep up with the best produce available, and there is the choice of a bar or restaurant menu.

The starters include sautéed squid and tempura prawns with creamed leeks, mushroom soup with truffle oil, or duck spring roll with sweet chilli sauce to name but a few - all beautifully presented. The main courses prove difficult to choose from with tempting food such as roast duck breast with a confit duck leg, potato cake, mushroom and red wine sauce, or pan-fried pork steak with black pudding, mashed potato, roast parsnip and red wine sauce. If you have a penchant for steak you might decide on the chargrilled sirloin of beef with hand-cut chips, with a slow-cooked tomato and hollandaise sauce. To draw a close to your meal there are some rather delicious desserts - something decadent such as the cappuccino creme brûlée with cinnamon doughnuts, chocolate brownie with Chantilly cream, or steamed ginger sponge with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream. There are also traditional desserts such as trifle, a selection of ice creams and sorbets, and an excellent selection of West Country cheeses if you prefer something savoury.

The White Hart hosts special events and offers periodically, for example, a beer and burger week, murder mystery evenings and three courses for £10 Monday to Saturday lunchtimes and between 6pm and 7pm in the evenings.
