Tucked away behind the shops of Salcombe's Fore Street (you actually walk through the clothes shop Crew to get there), The Wardroom Café is a true find for foodies. The menu is simple and concise and features some outstanding local produce. The intimate dining area has recently been artistically revamped and boasts a spectacular view of Salcombe's busy waterside. Don't mistake this for just a tea and bun café - expect fantastic lunch service and delicious food that could grace the tables of any high-quality restaurant. On top of this, they're also fully licenced. The seafood chowder was exquisite and an unusual Scotch egg made with black pudding was perfectly constructed with a soft-boiled centre. The local crab fishcakes were stunning and a platter of fresh local fish exquisitely presented. Portions were generous, prices were very reasonable and we were wowed by the standard of food. Go there and you'll be in for a real treat.
