Ascend the steps, come aboard and soak up the nautical good life. Beamers Restaurant boasts an enviable position overlooking the hustle and bustle of Brixham's fishing port, and it is therefore unsurprising to learn that the menu really takes advantage of its surroundings, packing a healthy seafood punch. The dining room, with its limed wooden booths, sturdy tables, crisp linen and soft furnishings in maritime blue, coupled with the presence of refreshing sea air, is the perfect platform for enjoying some fine fishy fare. Owners Simone and David Cook took the wheel in 2005 and, with Simone in the kitchen, have been satisfying the gastronomic needs of locals and visitors ever since.
Grab a window seat, take in the view over the port, with its colourful hillside cottages, fishing boats and gulls, and ponder the menu - opening yourself to a world of tricky decision making. When faced with such an outlook, who could resist succulent Brixham scallops simply pan-seared in garlic butter and herbs, or ignore Beamers famous Elberry Cove mussels cooked in a cream and white wine sauce with parsley and garlic? Main courses from the sea include a delicate and flavourful plaice fillet rolled around finest Brixham crab and served in a brandy sauce, and fresh finest whole sea bass with an almond and butter sauce. But it is not just seafood that is expertly cooked here. Wrap you tastebuds around a West Country 10oz rump steak served with a choice of delicious sauces, or a selection of homemade vegetarian delights - including a delectable mushroom and fresh Parmesan risotto. The dessert board changes every day offering something sweet and indulgent, and the extensive wine list to complement has been carefully compiled to draw out the flavours of the fish. A children's menu is available on request.
Beamers is also a great venue for holding functions; weddings, corporate events, dinners and buffets, cocktails parties and just about any other occasion, large or small, can be hosted here in style.
