The Cottage Hotel offers excellent food and first-class service, with unrivalled views across Bigbury Bay from Hope Cove. Open throughout the day, The Cottage Hotel serves everything from full English breakfasts and morning coffees, to bar lunches, afternoon teas and evening meals. Those visiting for a bar lunch can enjoy a snack or a three-course meal alfresco on the terrace or in the lounge or restaurant, while those dining in the evening can order up to five delicious courses. The traditional Sunday lunch is popular, so booking is advisable.
The main menu offers an abundance of fresh and beautifully cooked food, all presented with care and attention to detail. My guest was thrilled with her starter of carrot pancake with homemade hummus, and I with my lamb kofta, which was flavoursome and juicy. For the next course, a blackcurrant sorbet, and pea soup went down a treat, closely followed by a bowl of ling, mussels and prawns in a rich white wine sauce, and rack of West Country lamb, which was tender and perfectly seasoned.
Dessert saw delights such as pannacotta with fresh strawberries, and summer pudding, both of which were pleasingly light and refreshing. Feeling rather full after the first few courses, we didn't make it to the cheese course, but resolved to save room on our next visit. Accompany your food with a fine wine from the comprehensive list - and, of course, those stunning views
