The Italian Kitchen – Alveston
Italian

The Italian Kitchen has gained a well-deserved reputation for serving some of the finest Italian cuisine in the area. The team is passionate about bringing authentic Italian cooking to this little corner of the South West, and now has two sites: one in Hanham, and one within the the Alveston House Hotel, just outside Thornbury. Both sites showcase the best pasta imported direct from Italy, and use only the finest ingredients in their delectable dishes.
We recommend starting your visit with a cocktail – the Espresso Martini is a particular favourite – while you share a selection of meat or seafood antipasti. Perhaps you’ll be tempted by the calamari, or the crispy pancetta, basil and mozzarella arancini, which is an understandably popular starter.
The broad menu at The Italian Kitchen has something for everyone, but stays true to Italian tradition, with a range of pasta dishes to be followed by a meat or fish course. Perhaps you’ll plump for the linguine cooked in a sauce of vodka, cream and garlic with a generous salmon fillet? It’s a difficult dish to resist, with each component perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Fans of the classics are well catered for, too, with the likes of spaghetti Bolognese, carbonara and a delicious vegetarian lasagne packed full of roasted vegetables.
Meat-lovers will delight in the pollo porcini, featuring chicken cooked with porcini mushrooms in a white wine and cream sauce, and, of course, the steaks. For a real treat, plump for the fillet steak with blue cheese sauce – you can’t beat it. You could also choose to keep things simple by ordering one of the expertly prepared pizzas; with 14 to choose from, you’re sure to discover a new favourite. The menu boasts everything from risotto to lamb shank, and the quality of each dish is superb.
Whether you’re hosting a celebratory family dinner, an important business lunch or a private party, The Italian Kitchen has your needs covered. This charmingly authentic restaurant is the sort of place that you plan to return to before you’ve even left – no wonder it boasts such a legion of regulars.
