This unique restaurant occupies a prime position on Clifton Triangle, and is a great choice for a relaxed meal with loved ones. Inside, the interior is spacious yet retains a charming sense of intimacy, while the tranquil atmosphere ensures you feel a million miles away from the bustling city outside. The decor fuses smart, cosmopolitan style with traditional Thai imagery – think exposed brick walls, Buddhas and flickering lanterns. Outside there’s a chic garden in which guests can soak up the sun and dine al fresco, perhaps with a tipple from the popular cocktail menu.
When we visited we were greeted like old friends by our wonderful host who explained the concept: authentic Thai food served as small plates designed for sharing. We opted for the tasting menu, a bespoke selection of dishes that’s tailored to your palate. After discussing our preferred tastes with our knowledgeable waitress, we waited in anticipation for our starters to arrive, intrigued by the delights we were going to be treated to. First came a satisfyingly piquant papaya salad, along with aromatic Thai fishcakes with a sweet chilli dipping sauce, and crispy sliced beef topside with a spicy sauce. Next, we were served ever-popular pad Thai, and a delicious medley of fresh stir-fried vegetables. Perhaps the stand-out dish for us was the tender beef and prawn red curry – a vibrant fusion of flavours, each mouthful left a lasting impression. We’ll certainly be returning to sample more of Koh Thai’s excellent cuisine.
