The Crown Hotel

Sitting pretty amongst historic buildings, cobbled streets and the towering Guildhall building on Market Street in Poole, The Crown Hotel is an impressive prospect. Under new ownership this year, and with a new chef hard at work in the kitchen, this long-standing eatery has been revamped and offers a tempting new menu, comfortable guest rooms, exceptional service and reasonable prices to boot.

We were very impressed with the mussels, steamed in ale and served with a wedge of baked bread and a tasting glass of Proper Job ale. We also plumped for the coarse country pork and goose terrine, which we highly recommend. The succulent oven-baked Dorset lamb main came served in a sumptuous redcurrant, rosemary and Port jus, while the T-bone steak came with a creamy peppercorn sauce, crispy onion rings and chunky homemade chips. Make sure you save room for dessert too; from moreish Baileys and white chocolate creme brulée to delectable vanilla cheesecake and warm chocolate tart, you'll find plenty to satisfy your sweet tooth here.
