When we think of bistros we think affordable, wholesome, tasty food and friendly service; French's Bistro is no exception and far exceeds the standards set by some other bistros. Located in the heart of Devon, among a cluster of thatched cottages, this excellent eatery possesses a sense of community spirit that you might well expect of a town practically untouched by tourism.
French's strongly believes in offering interesting and wholesome food without charging a fortune, and was recently invited to become a member of the Les Routiers establishments, known for cleanliness, quality and service. Locally sourced ingredients ensure you receive nothing but the best during your time at the bistro, including sirloin steak from local Devonshire Cross herds, chicken from nearby Crediton and eggs gathered by hand from free-range hens in Kings Nympton (ask the chef about the smiley faces drawn on the eggs). Although there is an emphasis on local ingredients, chef patron Dianne French uses regional produce in an array of global cuisine, showcased in the bistro's monthly international cuisine nights.
A typical night at French's might involve a creamy lemon and asparagus risotto or a succulent steak with a choice of scrumptious sauces. For dessert, you might like to try 'French's mess', Dianne's take on the traditional English dessert, or perhaps a devilishly delectable chocolate Bavarois - pure indulgence.
