Church Street, Upton Noble, BA4 6AS

Tucked away just off the A359 between Bruton and Frome is the village of Upton Noble and The Lamb Inn. The Lamb is a 17th-Century free house with stunning panoramic views from the well-manicured beer garden towards Alfred's Tower and the Stourhead Estate (National Trust). The bar is heavily beamed, festooned with horse brasses and centred around a wood-burning stove. The restaurant comfortably seats 32 and has large picture windows that take full advantage of the views.
With a reputation for excellent traditional home-cooked food, well-kept real ales and an extensive wine list, The Lamb Inn is perfect for those seeking a quiet meal served in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Menus change very frequently and include a daily specials board with fish and other dishes. All food at The Lamb is freshly prepared and cooked to order using local ingredients wherever possible.
Typical starters include a warm tartlet of braised red onion and Somerset Brie on a bed of mixed leaves with a balsamic dressing (£5.75), as well as tiger prawns pan fried with chilli and garlic, served with a salad garnish and a crusty roll (£6.25). Main courses include a slow-braised lamb
shank served on a bed of herby mashed potato with rich red wine gravy and seasonal vegetables (£14.25), and the ever-popular five-fish pie comprising salmon, haddock, cod, smoked salmon and prawns (£9.75). Homemade desserts include a bread-and-butter pudding made with brioche, individually made cheesecakes and banoffee pies, as well as a simply gorgeous sticky toffee pudding (all at £4.75).
Owned and run by Andy and Anita Cole for the past three years, The Lamb Inn is a real hidden gem and definitely worth seeking out. Booking for the restaurant is advised, and essential for their renowned Sunday lunch
