The Puffing Billy is renowned for its excellent food, service and atmosphere. It stands just a short walk from the Exe Estuary and Exton station and provides a wonderful stop-off for walkers or cyclists on the new Exmouth to Exeter trailway.
During our visit we saw fresh fish being delivered direct from Exmouth – the seawater still dripping from the container as it headed into the kitchen. All the food here is prepared and cooked on the premises using fresh ingredients that, like the fish, are delivered daily. Whether you choose a homemade sandwich or a fillet of local beef, you’ll find only the finest flavours on your plate. The Sunday lunches are excellent too, featuring a selection of two or three spectacular special roasts. The team’s passion even shines through on the children’s menu, which features smaller but equally delicious meals that the little ones are guaranteed to love. The wine list is sourced and tasted by proprietors Adam and Charlotte, ensuring a balance of flavours and options from around the world.
This Devonshire gem has all the charm and values of a great British pub, serving delicious food and local ales in a contemporary, relaxing environment. But words alone don’t do this place justice – head to Exton and experience it for yourself.
